Bent Tree Friday News

· The board informally asked Administration to make changes to the summer food services hours and locations previously announced. Board members indicated they would prefer to see more full meal service at the Tavern and less at Club Tamarack. Administration will begin working out the details and a new schedule will be announced.

· The board discussed the idea of creating a citizens committee to begin work on a vision plan for the community. Administration is preparing a comprehensive needs assessment survey which will be mailed to all Bent Tree property owners. Results will help inform the board about the needs and wants of the community.

· The board renewed a contract with K-Comp Consulting Inc. to continue operating the Bent Tree Stables. Bent Tree provides liability insurance, some maintenance work and $20,000 to offset costs.

· The board also approved a $7,500 appropriation to build a run-in shed at the stables. It will provide shelter to pastured horses in case of inclement weather.

· Lyn Fickes was approved as chair of the 2023 Election Committee.

· The board approved creating the position of superintendent of water utilities to be in charge of the water plant. No new funds are needed for the position.

· The Courts Committee was authorized to open a checking account using Bent Tree’s federal tax ID number. Any funds collected will be used to cover incidental expenses related to the courts.

Notes from General Manager Jim Pryor’s report

· Work at the golf course to expand the driving range and create a chipping green are expected to be finished around the end of April. The funds were contributed from the estate of the late Bob Foley.

· An inspection showed that fire prevention sprinkler heads need to be replaced at Club Tamarack and the Tavern.

· A telephone with a direct line to 911 operators has been installed at the back gate. It connects only to 911.

· The biannual road milling and paving program will likely take place next fall, hopefully as asphalt prices decline.

· The maintenance division has seeded grass and made landscape improvements to the dog park.

Bent Tree Safety & Emergency Management has teamed up with The Lodge at Stephens Lake to provide resources and education to people who struggle with falls. Falls are one of the most common medical calls our department responds to, and we would love to see the quality of life for at risk individuals improve.

A special Falls Prevention class is being hosted by The Lodge at Stephens Lake at 200 Mountain Blvd S, Jasper. Beginning April 6th, classes will be held every Thursday from 2:00-4:00 PM for eight weeks. That’s only 16 hours for the entire program that could have a major positive impact on the lives of those affected by falls. I hope there is a great turnout from our community. The Bent Tree Animal Shelter adopts out over 20 cats and several dogs each year. We have approximately 30 dogs that come spend a small amount of time with us until we find their home where they got lost from here in Bent Tree.

This year we are averaging more lost dogs than normal. Please check your fence, use a leash when walking, when having contractors in keep your dog or cat in a confined area in your house, remind visitors to be aware of your pets. If your pet gets lost let the front gate know. If you find an animal let the front gate know.

We have 14 wonderful cats and one great dog looking for their new family.
