Public Safety Updates:

GRILLING FIRE SAFETY

June and July are the “hottest” months for grill fires. According to the NFPA, approximately 9,500 people per year are seriously burned each year by grill fires or hot grills. Enjoy your summer cookouts safely, and don’t be part of those statistics! Please follow the link to our website to access a short video about safe grill operations and see if you pass the test!

Administration & Board Updates:

Board Updates

The Board of Directors would like to thank you for approving the Capital Contribution Fee which allowed us to add striping to the major roads in our community.

Admin Updates

We would like to inform you that we have removed the files from the wall of the mail center. The volunteer who managed these files found that items were rarely cleared out, including Christmas cards and other very dated materials. Additionally, residents were placing misplaced mail in these files, making it difficult for others to know they might have important mail there.

If you find misplaced mail, please place it in the outgoing mail receptacle in the mail room. Do not hand it to the mail person, and do not write on it. Also, please refrain from putting trash into the outgoing mail slot.

If you need to leave an item for another resident, you are welcome to leave it at the admin office, and we will ensure it gets to them.

We are actively communicating with the postmaster regarding your concerns, including behavior, rudeness, and window inconsistency. The postmaster is aware of these issues and is working to address them.

News from The Stables

According to the Do Good Institute at the University of Maryland, a report was shared on April 23, 2024, that the estimate for the value of a volunteer hour was $33.49 in 2023, a 5.3% increase from 2022. Volunteers make a huge difference in our society at large, to our economic engines and to our neighborhood. In the non profit world, development directors (known as the fundraisers) will tell you there are three assets nonprofits need from people: Time, Talent or Treasure. At an estimated $33.49 per hour, imagine the impact you can have if you just volunteer a few hours each week!

If you determine that you have extra time on your hands and want to contribute your time to make a difference in our neighborhood, consider helping at the Bent Tree Stables. While the stables has a very proficient and efficient handyman, sometimes, depending on mother nature and increased barn use, even the amazing handyman can use an extra handy hand.

If you have the following skills and inclination, call the barn to see how you can help.

A volunteer Barn Handyman (handy person) at the stable/barn will help the Staff Handyman with maintenance within the barn and on the grounds maintaining and environment of safety for both people and the horses. As a handyman your primary responsibilities include helping the staff Handyman with routine repair about the barn.  The volunteer will respond to tasks assigned by the Barn manager and Staff Handyman as well as identifying items in need of maintenance. The volunteer will keep the Barn Manager and Staff Handyman informed on supplies needed for items that should be repaired or replaced. Work hours vary and will be coordinated with the Barn Manager and Staff Handyman. This is a generalist position, often filled by hobbyists, individuals looking to find a career with horses and retirees.

  • Responsibilities and Duties May Include:
  • Carry out minor carpentry work.
  • Carry out minor building maintenance work including painting, clearing drains, etc. as instructed by Barn Manager/Staff Handyman
  • Empty external waste bins and remove litter.
  • In the presence of frost or potential freezing conditions, prepare the facility.
  • Communicate with the Barn Manager/Staff Handyman on status of work.
  • Assist with moving furniture or other equipment, as needed.
  • Assist with repairing fences and other structures for the horses.
  • Assist with hanging items, touch up painting, and fixing simple repairs like toilets, lighting, etc.
  • Needs to know how to read instructions and manuals.
  • Needs to have experience with everyday building maintenance.

Call today to sign up as a volunteer or to book your next visit or ride: (706) 692-6322. See you at Bent Tree Stables!
