Public Safety Updates:

New Radios Arrived! – Thank You

Last summer, the Bent Tree Foundation purchased 9 portable Motorola radios for Bent Tree Public Safety. After an extended delay from the supplier, the radios are finally here! Now all our primary response units have been assigned state-of-the-art radios, allowing them to properly communicate during emergency situations. Officers with assigned radios are also now properly equipped to go directly to emergency scenes from an off-duty status, which happens frequently. Thank you very much to the Bent Tree Foundation and all the generous donors that made this purchase possible. Your contributions have made a major difference and will greatly enhance the safety of our community and officers. Please follow the link below to the Bent Tree Foundation website to learn about their many community enhancement projects and how you can help.

MEET THE HORSES

This week we introduce Ruby. She is a mare and a registered Quarter horse and is a gorgeous Buckskin color. She has been at the barn for about 15 years. Ruby has two children, Cash and Shaymee, who both live at Bent tree Stables. Ruby is wicked smart and expresses herself through her body language. For instance, she will look at her hay bag and look at her care giver, then look at her hay bag and back at her care giver. She will do that until the care giver understands that Ruby wants more hay. If her water trough is not up to her standards, she will not drink, but she will stand there until her care giver refreshes the water, which may have some hay or leaves in it. Ruby is also opinionated and wants to be where and do what she wants. Period. She likes her own space and doesn’t want any other horses in her paddock. Period. As a rider, you must earn her respect. Keeve, the Stable Master, is her person. Period. Once Keeve is seated in Ruby’s saddle, beware human females who come around. Ruby is jealous, and she will give you a little nod to let you know. She is typically the lead horse, and Ruby is an award-winning athlete too. She is decorated with ribbons and trophies for Western Competitions, Barrells and Omoksee. Oh, and Ruby loves to run, as well as take naps in a sunny spot on a cool spring day. These past few weeks have been very cold for the horses. Ruby's water trough, like all the water troughs, was frozen over. Ruby was smart enough to lick through to make a hole (like ice fishing) to get to her water. Not all the horses are as resourceful or tenacious. So, the ice layers in the water troughs had to be broken up daily for the horses who rely on daily water as a staple. Also, as you know, plastic expands and contracts in freezing temperatures; it wears more quickly and sometimes just cracks. As you can see, Ruby is wearing her winter blanket for protection. While Ruby loves a snack of apples or carrots, she also loves her water trough and her blanket. Consider supporting the stables by donating a snack of apples or carrots for her or a new waterproof blanket or a new water trough. Or...just book your trail ride and bring 4 or 5 friends. See you on the trails.
