Bent Tree Friday News

The Bent Tree Board of Directors will be holding a Monthly Board Meeting on Tuesday, February 28, 2023 in the Recreation Room at Club Tamarack at 9 am.

This is an in-person meeting and will be recorded for later viewing.

A link of the recorded meeting will be sent out next Friday in the Friday News.

FERAL HOGS

There have been some recent reports and evidence of feral hogs in the Bent Tree area. If you see a feral hog, pig, or suspected damage from them, please provide the following details to Public Safety as soon as possible:

Exact location, date, and time observe
Number of animals witnessed
Photos or videos of the animal/damage if you can obtain them safely

It is worth noting that wayward farm pigs occasionally make their way into Bent Tree. These are not the same as feral hogs. Feral hogs have thicker bristly fur, longer straighter tails, and often have tusks. Feral hogs can be aggressive if cornered, so do not approach them too closely.

and How We Can Use Them Today.

Mark Warren is a graduate of the University of Georgia. At Medicine Bow, his nationally renowned wilderness school in the Southern Appalachians, he teaches nature classes and survival skills of the Cherokees. Warren has written extensively about nature for local and national magazines. He lectures on Native American history and survival skills, and Western Frontier History presenting at museums and cultural centers around the country. Warren is a 2022 Georgia Author of the Year recipient for his book Song of the Horseman (Finalist for Literary Fiction.)

The Ancient Ways of the Cherokee and How We Can Use Them Today shares valuable lessons and skills from native people who inhabited this continent long before European explorers landed on its shores. Learn how some of the most common native plants and trees were used by the Cherokee for food, medicine, insect repellent, crafts, shelter and fire.

The middle of the day is usually nap time for the cats at the shelter, but they are ok for visits then too. Daytimes, evenings, or weekends, one of our volunteers will be glad to introduce you to our kitties. Our beagle boy was adopted by a wonderful family. Thank you to all who had an interest in giving him a home. Several folks have mentioned they would foster or may want to adopt. If you are looking for a dog we can help, even if our shelter does not have any dogs. We have contacts with other shelters and rehoming sites. There is a great need for adoptions and fosters in the local shelters. It is heartbreaking to see how stressed some of the dogs become in a big shelter environment. The dog below is Ava, from a local shelter. She is dropping weight from stress. This sweet girl needs a foster or adoption. If you are interested, please text or call LuAnn at 678-414 -1047
