Administration Updates:

DECEMBER AC MEETING

The next AC meeting will be held on December 14th from 9:00-12:00 upstairs in the administrative building.

Board Of Directors Updates:

BOARD VACANCY

Mark Christensen has resigned from the Bent Tree Board of Directors and the board plans to move quickly to fill the slot.

Mark is completing his second year on the board, has served as secretary for the past year and a half and has been board liaison to the Golf and Greens Committee. His steady, reasoned demeanor will be missed. Earlier this year his home was struck by lighting and burned and for the past many months Mark has been dealing with the rebuilding process.

He’ll continue contributing to our community in an important way: last year Mark was one of the Bent Tree residents to complete a grueling and time-consuming course to qualify as a volunteer firefighter. He plans to continue in that role.

The board is soliciting email applications from residents interested in filling the last year of Mark’s three-year term. In their emails applicants should discuss their background and state the reasons they think they would make a good director. Applications are due Dec. 15 and should be sent to board President Glen Harris at glenharris@bent-tree.com.

The board has scheduled a special meeting for Dec. 19, at 9 a.m. in Club Tamarack, to make the selection. The successful candidate will assume office immediately.

Public Safety Updates:

Fire Safety – Christmas Trees

Many people enjoy the sight of a nicely decorated Christmas tree in their home. However, it is important to remember that Christmas trees are combustible and must be cared for properly to ensure safety. Although Christmas tree fires are not common, they can become very serious and quickly cause substantial loss. Watering your tree daily makes a major difference regarding its flammability. Please follow the link below to access a short video demonstrating that and to read more valuable safety tips regarding Christmas trees on the Bent Tree website.

CHRISTMAS TREE FIRE SAFETY

Recent Brushfires

Over the past two weeks, the Bent Tree Fire Department has responded to two mutual aid requests from Pickens County FD to assist in extinguishing large brush fires. One of them was approximately a half mile away from the Oglethorpe Mountain section of Bent Tree with flames visible in the distance to many residents. The other was near the 4-way stop in Tate. Given the current conditions in the county, fire incidents like these have tremendous potential to spread quickly and cause mass destruction, especially in our heavily wooded, mountainous community.

Earlier this year, the Bent Tree Fire Department responded to three brushfire incidents within our community, each caused by downed power lines. In every instance, our personnel were on scene very quickly to take critical actions to control and extinguish the fires before they threatened any homes. A response without delay and early control measures are vital during these incidents.

Bent Tree is a massive community, and we need everyone’s help to be watchful and report fire hazards as soon as possible. Within Bent Tree, the outdoor burning of wood, wood products, paper products, or other combustibles is prohibited. Violations should be reported to Public Safety at 770-893-2628. Fire emergencies, including brush fires, should be reported immediately by calling 911, and our fire department will be notified automatically.
